Lesser Town (Mala Strana)

Lesser Town is one of the Prague's oldest boroughs. Its name comes from its position on the west bank of the river Vltava. Lesser Town is connected with Old Town by Charles Bridge (Karlův most) . The famous Czech novelist Jan Neruda was born, lived in and wrote about Lesser Town. Also the Petrin lookout tower is located in Lesser Town.

Prague Castle area  – Dominating feature of this area is of course Prague castle, seat of Czech kings and queens and from 1918 also of the Czech president. Prague castle is said to be the biggest castle in the world at about 570 meters length and an average of about 130 meters wide. Part of this Castle is also St. Vitus Cathedral. Interesting on this cathedral, except of its breathtaking architecture is that building started in 1344 and was finished in 1929! The crown jewels of the Bohemian Kingdom are kept there.

Vinohrady got its name from the fact that from the 14th century this area was covered by vineyards dating from the 14th century.
